Out-of-classroom learning - EASB H&T students appreciating the concept of Destination…
On a breezy Wednesday afternoon on 22 Feb, a group of EASB Hospitality & Tourism Advanced Diploma students enjoyed an outing to the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (SYSNMH) which is a stone’s throw away from EASB campus at 9 Ah Hood Road.
The students had an insightful complimentary guided tour of the memorial hall by SYSNMH docent where they got to see the five permanent galleries and a special exhibit: One Night in Wuchang:1911 Revolution And Nanyang while hearing the richness of the history behind the interesting artefacts of original photos, paintings and calligraphy works handwritten by Dr. Sun.
SYSNMH traces Dr Sun's revolutionary activities in the Southeast Asian region and highlights Singapore and Nanyang’s contributions to the 1911 Revolution, as well as the impact of the 1911 Revolution on Singapore and Nanyang in general.
In addition to understanding the history, the students get to appreciate the concept of destination and destination resources, and the importance of attractions as tourism service suppliers.
Accompanying the students was EASB’s lecturer Mr. Norman Hassan.
Such out-of-classroom experiential learning aims to provide our students the needed exposure to fathom the world differently than they would if they have just remained in the classroom…
We look forward to hearing their individual reflection after this journey!
